Tart Tomatoes

The guy at the farmer’s market warned me that these babies were tart.
“Tart tomatoes?” I thought, “Never heard of ‘em.”
Certainly never tasted them. (Never tasted a blood orange, either, which also happened to find it’s way into this photo).
But what do you know, the tomatoes are tart. That is just exactly, precisely the right word for them.
Mixed with sweet cherry tomatoes they make a tomato bruschetta to die for.
Fresh, red, local tomatoes in February. There are some upsides to living in the Smog Bowl.
